SRO Program
Greenwood County School District 52 contracts with the Ninety Six Police Department to employ four (4) School Resource Officers (SROs) which are assigned to serve every school within the Town of Ninety Six and the District (Ninety Six Public Schools). These SROs work closely with each school and their administration towards the goal of creating and maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment for students, teachers, and staff. The SRO program reflects the community's desire to ensure that its schools are safe and secure. SROs represent a proactive strategy designed to bring prevention and intervention into the schools. SROs provide support and training for school staff on issues of juvenile law, substance abuse, and school safety. The SRO investigates crimes committed on school property and at school sponsored events, and are involved in planning and executing several enforcement programs throughout the year. Additionally, the SRO is a positive role model for many students who are not exposed to such role models in today's society, and their presence in the school sends a strong message that violence and certain behaviors are not acceptable. Our SROs come with over fifty three (53) years combined law enforcement experience, and are trained in various aspects of law enforcement and school safety and receive continuous training certifications throughout each year.
In addition to SROs the District also contracts two (2) School Crossing Guards through the Ninety Six Police Department. These School Crossing Guards provide a visible presence at our schools to assist with all kinds of traffic flow (i.e. vehicles and pedestrians). They move from school to school at different times to assist them with various traffic needs.
